Manchester United have imposed salary caps after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

According to the Daily Mail, this innovation has already been called the Ronaldo rule. Cristiano`s salary at Manchester United was significantly higher than the salaries of other players. Now at United, the maximum possible weekly salary of a player will be no more than 200 thousand pounds.

Eric ten Hag, John Murtaugh and Richard Arnold want the players not to be jealous of each other.

The new rule will directly affect David De Gea. The goalkeeper receives £375, 000 a week on a contract that runs until the summer of 2023. To stay at Manchester United, he will have to agree to a significant pay cut - if he agrees, he will receive at the level of Bruno Fernandes. If the Spaniard does not agree, he will have to leave.

Now United`s big players Rafael Varane, Harry Maguire, Casemiro and Fernandes are getting roughly equal salaries (between £180, 000 and £200, 000 a week according to the Daily Mail, some sources report higher amounts). If they fail to qualify for the Champions League, their salaries will be reduced. Luke Shaw, whose contract runs until the summer of 2024, will be offered a similar salary.

The idea of Manchester United is to have more players receive approximately the same salary. The club no longer wants to spend £500, 000 a week on the salaries of individual superstars.
